02/05/01 Cloudy out but warmer, 40's as we head East on Hwy 54. Stopped at Hickory Hill Antiques new store. Great place, nice visit with Diane. Left JCAD brochures for them to pass out. Met folks out in the parking lot that we've met in Boonville, Osage Beach, many stores around the state. It was neat that they recognized us! Had a nice visit and of course, they got a copy of the latest brochure! Heading on East into the City of Jefferson. Stopped at the State Library building and left JCAD brochures, then on down to the Loman House Building, and Amtrak station, to see the video about the City of Jefferson. Thanks Mary Ann! We enjoyed the video and learned a lot. They also have museum displays from the city. We appreciate being able to leave our brochures, too. On out of town on Hwy 50 West now. Stopped by Frenchie's and dropped off brochures with the owners. Hope they come see our site! Beautiful sunshine out now and clear blue skies. Into the town of Centertown, population, 356. Had to stop at our favorite nursery, Longfellows, and the pansies are out in many colors! Got their latest brochure and left many of ours. Entering Moniteau County and the community of McGirk, we're in and out quickly! Found a new store, The Dome at 56730 Hwy 50. Be sure to tell Luke that Joe and Cathy sent you! This is a new flea market and yes, it's in a dome! On into California, population 3,465 to drop off brochures at all 3 antique and flea markets. Been talking to these folks for years, would love to have them as JCAD members. Seems strange to be heading back towards Eldon on Hwy 87. Had to stop at one of our favorite places, Burgers Smokehouse to visit with Dee, pass our brochures and leave plenty for them to give away and buy some of their delicious beef jerky! Can't get it anywhere but here! So, we must confess, Darlin' and I enjoyed good eating on the back way home. Ya'll enjoy the ride and let us know you came to visit with us. Until next time, be happy and be safe out on these Missouri back roads! 02/16/01 Everything is frozen this morning, truck windows, doors. There are many icicles hanging from the mailboxes. It's rained hard for the last 2 days and then it was 12 degrees last night. It's another gray day, at least the fog is not so low, today, you can see the lights blinking on the tops of the towers. You could only see half way up the towers yesterday. The limestone bluffs are all wet. Watch for the new red light at the Hwy 54/W Junction. Great idea but why leave the yield lane? Still putting folks out in the traffic with no accelerating lane. Go figure. The Osage River is up and looking good. Traffic is picking up as we head into the beach. Stopped for a moment at Bank Star One and got to visit with Lucy. Told her we were going to do updates at OBFM, Osage Beach Flea Market. She has a booth there and a sled bed we'll be sure to get a picture of! At the Jct. of Hwy 54 and Hwy 42, turn left, and this store is about a half mile down the road on the right. Sure looks different with all the construction for new stores and shopping malls on the left. I got to visit with Don while Darlin' started taking shots. We've purchased a new camera for better quality pictures. It has a zoom and holds hundreds of photo's at once. The new picture on the page was taken in motion as we turned in the driveway. I think we're really gonna enjoy this new digital Kodak. While doing the update, we met many nice folks and 2 were also dealers that have booths here. Of course, they all got a JCAD brochure. As always, it's a pleasure to shop here. The store is clean and well lit and the folks are so friendly and the price is right! We even found something we couldn't live without. It was a longer printer cable! Yeah! Had a nice time and got a good update. Even got a nice ride into the State Park to see the Lake and enjoy the view. The park is gearing up for the annual Polar Bear Plunge tomorrow. The lake is sparkling blue as we head home the back way. Be safe, have a good trip to our area and e-mail us anytime. 02/17/01 Cold out, 20's but the sun is shining as we head East on Hwy 54. Darlin' is taking pictures riding shotgun while I drive. Took Hwy 52 West through Versailles and stayed on Hwy 52 all the way to Hwy 65. Lots of construction work as new roads are being built. Detours here and there and lots of traffic out and about. Good days of sunshine have been rare lately. Went to Lowry City to leave JCAD brochures at a new store in town. Not many changes in town. On down to Osceola and arrived at Trade Fair Mall. So nice to visit with everyone and even met Paul and Kathy's daughter, Heather. Hope she comes to see the website and see that she's in the Back Way! Thanks Kathy for the update information. So many changes in this store, new booths of wonderful items. Met many friendly folks here and of course, they all got a JCAD brochure. Even had folks exchanging e-mail addresses over postcard collections! Wonderful! Got a great update and Darlin' took many wonderful pictures. Think we're gonna really like the new camera. After this nice visit, off we go the back way home. Darlin' is driving now. Enjoyed a great pastrami sub and chips on the way home. Even stopped at Tightwad at the Hitchin' Post. Met Kate and her daughter. She got a JCAD brochure for herself and thanks for passing out our brochures to other folks! Got her e-mail address and will let her know she's in this story! Had a great ride home watching a beautiful sunset. See you next trip! 02/23/01 Friday morning. The beautiful snow we got yesterday is melting fast. Off I go East on Hwy 54. The highway was clear when I first got on it, now I can see the fog in the distance. Turned on the Toy headlights and slowed down. Road construction, we're getting 2 more lanes! Yes! It's needed so badly. Turned left onto Hwy 87. Busy day, lots of folks out and about. Turned right at the light, onto Business 54. Across from the airport I turned right into Anita's Keepsake Kottage. Anita is busy painting on clear baskets. Got to visit for a few minutes and even got to show her the Back Way and the JCAD guestbook on her computer. She's busy e-mailing a letter to me to test it out! Yeah Anita! I'm so proud of you! Love teaching new folks all about computers. Alicia and Tobin brought lunch and even Anita's husband, Lawrence came by, too. Thanks for the slice of cherry pie! My camera is full of pictures, got all the latest information and now I'm heading home the back way. More clouds moving in, calling for thunderstorms later today. Thunder in February, frost in May. Come ride along with us again soon. Be sure to send us an e-mail or leave a message in our JCAD Guestbook. What do you collect? |
