03/03/01 Cloudy out and 40's as we head down the road. Everything is thawing out. Thanks Darlin' for washing the mud off the Toy. Lots of traffic out as we head East on Hwy 54. The sun is trying so hard to shine. The hillside is gone...now 2 red mud lanes are emerging on the left of the road. Turned left onto North Hwy 87. See tiny green blades of grass peeking through all the brown. Many of the trees have tiny buds showing. The first stop is at Blast From the Past. So nice to see Gene and met a couple from the City of Jefferson out hitting all the antique stores. Asked the lady that she collected as I gave her a JCAD brochure. She said she collected dust! HA! Then she mentioned she collects blue Fireking. Well, several stores in JCAD have a few pieces of blue Fireking. Hope you enjoy! Darlin' got many good pictures and I wrote down the information. Gene is also a teacher of Business at a local college and may do this full time soon. This store, with or without inventory, is for sale. Finished up with our update here and on down the street and saw the red and blue guitars lit up in the window of Trade N Place. Stepped inside and the jam session is in full swing! Come see the webpage for photo's of the musicians. The front room is full of pickers and grinners. Met Anita and her family as she was working her booth. Of course, they all got a brochures. We had a real nice visit with Dan, got some great pictures and lots of update material. Enjoyed the ride the back way home. Ya'll be careful and come ride along with us again real soon. 3/10/01 Beautiful blue skies and calm as we head East on Hwy 54. Through Eldon and onto 52 West. Lots of traffic out this morning. Everyone is enjoying the nice day. Only 10 days until Spring. I think we're all ready for sunny days and warmer temperatures. Heading towards Versailles and there are so many new, white face baby calves on the right. We just went by! A red Toyota truck, same year, only without fog lights and URL. Coming and going! HA! Stopped at the Amoco station in Versailles to fill up. Gasoline prices are $124.9 Best price we've seen in months. Town is busy and all the vehicles are full of folks. The Open Flea Market sign says they open this year on March 30th. Went through the detour West of Cole Camp to stay on Hwy 52. Lots of crows out in the corn field and the creek is full! We've all been getting some nice rains. More baby calves are stretched out in the sunshine and a wheat field is glowing green. Several fields are freshly plowed. Lots of traffic crossing South Flat Creek, then we crossed Pepper Branch. Field after field after field, you can see for a LONG way on each side. Coming into the town of Windsor, population 3,044. The ball field is busy today! It and the airport are on the right. This is now Henry County. We stopped to get us a cherry limeade at Sonic. Darlin' drove around town and I left brochures on the door of the Vault and met folks at a new flea market in town. Oh, my, the town is online! Wrote down their URL to write to them later! I'm so proud of them! Crossed East Tebo Creek and we're out of town. Have been watching this business grow each time we travel this way. Our son-in-law is a paintball man, this place is JB's Battlefield Paintball. Stopped today and got to meet the owner, Lynn. Nice place, got one of his brochures and left some of ours. We'll go see their website, too! (It's a GREAT web page!) Down the road through Calhoun. This road runs right beside the Katy Trail. Into Clinton and our first stop is at The Emporium Flea Mall. Love the new signs! Inside and Linda is busy! Darlin' got busy taking pictures, I got to visit and meet all the customers and pass out brochures. Folks look at me funny when I walk right up to them and ask what they collect. I enjoy meeting them, folks collect SO MANY things! It's wonderful! Got lots of new information and met nice folks from Alabama. Next stop is Wagon Wheel Antique Mall. Always a pleasure to visit here, today we got to visit with Kay. This is a wonderful store to shop in. Darlin' got some GREAT pictures! We're really liking our new camera. We're getting shots of booths instead of an individual item. Had a great time, great visit and off we go! Heading out of town on a new back way, taking Hwy 13 North, came to Quarles, at Hwy N and 13. White doves flying on the right, many cornfields here. Into the community of Shawnee Mound, hey, they've got Key blue jeans! Darlin's favorites! A farm on the right has a sign for registered buffalo and we can see them out in the field. Now we're entering Johnson County and into Postoak. Another new road for us, Hwy 2 East and ended up in Leeton, population 632. Drove through town on Lee Street and stopped at Floyd's Flea Market and left a brochure on his door. Darlin' got a picture of bricks on a building that were painted into a flag and also got a picture of the Opry House. All quiet here in town now. Stayed on Hwy 2 East as the adventure continues. Winds are picking up some, now we're back into Henry County. We crossed the Tebo creek several times. The houses are huge 2 story farm houses. I'm trying to see all this stuff and write, too! Kountry Bulk Store sign on the right. The creek runs along on the left side of the road and boy is it full! Crossed East Tebo and back into Windsor. Through town and back onto Hwy 52 East. Twelve turkey barns in a row, smells bad. Now much better as we crossed Pepper Creek again. We've seen Saline Valley and Boonslick, now we know where the pepper is! Flat Creek is looking good as we cross. I'm about ready to go fishing, how about you? 03/22/01 Rainy out as we head West to Hwy 54. Darlin' had to turn around and go back to the house, I had forgotten my JCAD clipboard. So, now, I can write! Lots of drivers out as we get through the beach. Stayed on 54 West through Camdenton. The lake is beautiful at Niangua Branch bridge. Hwy D off to the left goes to one of our favorite state parks, Ha Ha Tonka. It's beautiful all seasons! Tiny purple flowers on the right, then you notice the white cross. A loved one has died here. Makes you think about paying attention to your surroundings and driving as safely as you can. All the hillsides are turning green. It's so nice to see. Beautiful yard on the right, using natural landscaping, lots of moss and rocks. Into the community of Macks Creek, population 272. Turned left onto Hwy 72 and into Dallas County. Chevy pickup and a John Deere tractor for sale. Lots of new buildings along the way. Good to see all the new construction and the folks outside enjoying the day. Now it's only cloudy, not raining. Into the town of Buffalo, population 2,414, the city limits sign has been moved, new businesses have been annexed. The jonquils are blooming, I love Spring! Even got to see a goldenrod bush in bloom and a dune buggy in the yard. Stopped to visit at Davis Antiques on Maple Street and left new JCAD brochures. So nice to see the parking lot full as we pulled up to Polly's Flea Market Mall. Had a nice visit with Nancy and even got to meet her sister, Kelly. Hope she comes to see the web site. Met a nice couple from Chicago and a nice lady from Minnesota. Hope they use their brochure while they're here and on-line when they get back home. That's one good thing about the web, we're all world wide. After a great update and Darlin' got wonderful pictures, we're off through Buffalo to stop at all the antique stores and then down to the Victorian Steakhouse for a great lunch. Now we're off on Hwy 32 towards Bolivar and stopped at Bo Peeps, she's closed on Thursdays, so I left the latest brochure on her door, see her next trip. Patches of bright yellow jonquils here and there in the ditches and yards. The sun is trying to shine, Pomme de Terre River is looking good! New business, Country Days Rodeo and Bull Ride on the left. Into the city of Bolivar, population 6,845 and coming into town on Broadway Street. They do have a beautiful courthouse on the square, drove on through town on Hwy 32 until we got to Hwy T, then we turned left. At the light, we turned left again onto Hwy 13. Stopped and got a picture of the JCAD billboard, thanks Country Classics, we sure appreciate it! Stopped at Local Motion Antiques and on down to Country Classics. Met folks from Florida that pulled up in their RV. Had a great visit with Larry when we got done working, hope Sharon is feeling much better today! Miss visiting with her, too. You won't believe what wonderful changes have been going on in this store! Come see their website and see! Darlin' got GREAT pictures and I passed out brochures to everyone. Now, we're off, taking Hwy D out of town. Such a pretty ride, wheat fields turning green, other fields plowed and ready. Hey, we have sunshine! Lots of pretty horses in the community of Polk. Across to Hwy 64 North and crossed the Lindley Creek Arm of Pomme de Terre Lake. Stopped for a nice visit at Nemo Park, the lake water is sparkling blue.....Refilled the drinking cup, got snacks out of the work box to munch on and got to stretch our legs. It's a long way home the back way, but the view is lovely. Stopped at all the antique stores along the way. Ya'll be careful out and enjoy riding the back roads of Missouri. |
