Bright sunshine, hot and muggy as we head East on Hwy 54. A typical Missouri summer day. Trying new roads to us today. Hang a left onto Hwy FF. Such a beautiful pond with an island on the right. What a wonderful fishing spot! Entered Cole County. See big corn patch on the left and cows taking a dip in a pond on the right. Turned onto Hwy A and entered Monitou County. Saw a sign for Enon city limits. Registered Texas Long Horns on the right, they're out by the gate. What pretty spotted cattle with such long horns! Another hot Missouri summer day as we head East on Hwy 54. Turned left on North Hwy 87 towards Eldon. Beautiful gardens and flowers along the way. Turned left again as we got to Maple Street downtown. Had a GREAT visit with Don and Lola at Past 'N Present. Got them signed up and what a store! It's so full of wonderful treasures you can hardly walk! Stop by and see them today! Had a nice visit with Randy from Maple Street Emporium. He told Lola and Don about us! They can't keep enough JCAD brochures! That's GREAT! We'll have to go to print again! Now that's what we like to see! Busy stores! And to learn that they DID travel "The Back Way" to get here! How wonderful! You MUST come see the wonderful antique stores, Maple Street is full of 'em! Happy Shopping!

Cloudy out and a beautiful day out, much less humid today. A Wonderful day in the Ozarks! How nice to see so many visitors to our area. Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa, Indians, Utah--Welcome to the Lake! Have a GREAT time! Saw several fire trucks at Rick C's Road. Someone took out the guard rail and down the embankment, Good Lord, be with them. The sun is sparkling on the Osage River. How beautiful. Take Business 54 towards Bagnell Dam. Take the toll bridge. We always take a few minutes to stop and enjoy the view! It freaks 'em out but the other traffic keeps going. Stop and enjoy the back way! Darlin' got the chance to take some good pictures. I mean, if you're gonna make me pay a atoll to ride across your bridge, I'm gonna get my money's worth! ha ha The view is lovely! Big boats, ski boats, waverunners, the bridge is vibrating again. The Toyota is jumping up and down. Have to laugh! Waved at joggers going across the bridge and he waved back. Met Diane at the Toll Bridge booth. Left her with a JCAD brochure and a smile on her face! Hang a left on Hwy 5. Into Hurricane Deck and everything is lusciously green. Tortilla Flats on the left and Josh's Antiques on the right. Crossed the Osage Branch of Lake of the Ozarks. How beautiful! What a GREAT day to ride motorcycles. Many are out and about. Took Hwy 7 by Kerr's Country Mart (best deli around) and we're on our way! Talk about a picture perfect house, gazebo, pond with weeping willow on island and complete with 2 white swans! WOW! Hwy 7 is full of twists and turns. Stopped at the Little Friendly Climax Market and left some JCAD brochures. Joe took a picture of a painting on the side of the building. On down the road, left some brochures at Mike and Nancy's store at the junction of Hwy 7 and Hwy 65. Came across an auction in action, left some brochures at Johnson Auction. Came into town by the Elks Lodge in Warsaw! Turned South on Hwy 83, won't tell you what we called it, but look out for that hill! After you read the Whitakerville sign, WATCH THE ROAD! Truman Lake, Big Pomme Arm, wildflowers are everywhere! Queen Anne Lace, Missouri Snakeroot, Chicory and more! Saw the Fairfield Public Use Area, Took Hwy K. Fresh oil and gravel, please, slow down when you meet someone and not throw rocks at us! Hwy W towards Wheatland. Cross Timbers is a beautiful neighborhood. Hwy 363, what beautiful HUGE mimosa trees in full bloom! On into Weableau, population 436 to visit with Vern @ ABC Shop. Got a great update and enjoyed the visit. Stop in and see for yourself! It's a Mom and Pop operation in full swing! On down to Hwy 13 South and made it to Country Classics. Had a great visit with Sharon and Larry and Kevin. We saw their wonderful billboard on Hwy 13 with the JCAD URL in 2' letters across the bottom! Thanks so much! Such a busy store, be sure to always get a piece of wonderful pie. Today was pecan pie and fresh lemonade! Whew! That'll get us energy for the long ride home, the back way!

Talking about our answering machine as we backed out of the driveway, want to change it to, We'd like to talk to you, but we've gone to your favorite antique store! ha ha Beautiful blue skies over Mid-Missouri as we head East on Hwy 54. Lots of traffic heading towards the beach. A few big fluffy clouds shine in the sky. Sign says 31 miles to the city of Jefferson. It's a lovely town and pretty capital. It reminds me a lot of how Atlanta was when I was a child. Big enough to be exciting, but small enough to enjoy it. The Regional Library is having a class today on interesting web sites on the web and we're on our way with JCAD brochures. Crossed into Cole county. Met nice folks at the library, on over to the State Library. Quite interesting. Over to Tourism--Mapping to pick up a box of new State maps! We've gotten Lake of the Ozarks added as an insert and we're so happy! Back down Hwy 54 West towards Eldon. We're so PROUD to be adding a GREAT store we've had listed on JCAD since we met Dan in August, 1997, Trade -N- Place. How WONDERFUL. Come in and enjoy his store! Play a free selection on the jukebox while you shop! Tell him you found him in our directory! Until next time, stay cool in the HEAT. Index is running over 100 degrees in the afternoons. Bring lots of water and ice as you make your journey the back way!

Been doing updates and accounting all morning. Too HOT! Traveling the back way to cool off in the Toyota. Took brochures out to the Lake of the Ozarks State Park off Hwy 54. It's the oldest and the largest state park in Missouri and it's beautiful! Has 2 nice public beaches for swimming and many camping spots. Left some brochures at the camp store. Saw many happy campers. Too hot, too humid for man and beast. Be sure to have lots of fresh cool water for yourself and your animals. The water feels GREAT! Take care and stay cool! We're headed home the back way!

Beautiful blue sky as we head towards Tuscumbia, population 148 on East Hwy 52. A lot less humid out, warming up, tho. The Osage River is low, but looking good. On down to Iberia to get us another fan for our home. Heading down Hwy 42 towards Vienna. Met a new double wide trailer--one piece at a time! Fields look dry, we all need rain. Road construction at Fly Creek. Arrived in Vienna, population, 611 and went to the corner of Main and 3rd Street. This is the location of the Vienna Library and they have internet access. Open Tuesday - Friday 1-5 p.m. Thursday they stay open late 2-8 p.m. and open Saturday 9 a.m.to 1 p.m. The librarian is so nice, tell 'em we sent ya! Would like to add more libraries to our JCAD pages as when you are traveling, you need to know where access to the internet can be found. Had a nice visit at Vienna Antiques and Auction and at Carroll's Antiques. Left brochures and into about the antique show at the lake. Headed back to Hwy 42. Stopped at Indian Ford resort, they were busy taking a busload of campers and canoes down to the Gasconade River for a day of floating. Stay East on Hwy 42/28. The road makes a sharp left. What a beautiful ride! Many tight corners then a double S curve and we realized that we have arrived in the beautiful community of Paydown. We've been here before. Huge brown oak building, 3 stories high on the left. A GREAT ivy patch. On up the hill, you have the remains of the mansion on the hill. Went by Cabin Creek Farm. One lane bridge and old log cabin, nice place. Quite the mountain we are climbing now. Hwy 28 took us into Belle, population 1,218. Cruising town. Got an excellent chocolate shake and malt. On into Bland, MO. What a lovely view! Stopped and made lunch and cooled off before we headed out at Frene Valley Roadside Park. You could see the city of Hermann on the next hillside. Made it into the beautiful city of Hermann and stopped for a GREAT visit with Pete at Pete's Plunder Antiques. Handed out hundreds of JCAD brochures to everyone we met! North on Hwy 19 into New Florence, population 801 and into Montgomery City, population 2,281 to the Montgomery County Fair! Tonight only! Def Leppard and JCAD is here! 110 degrees in the shade! Parked out under a maple tree beside Blaser Welding. Had a "stretch" limo pull up behind us! Thought Joe was kidding when he said the band has arrived! It WAS the band! Gave them all JCAD brochures! How cool! They like antiques and love the Lake of the Ozarks! Great concert! Great time! It's been so long! How nice to have a musical back way home!

Cooler night as my children and I head out going to GA. My mom fell and broke her right arm and right hip. Now she's bionic Grandma! Therapy twice a day, so good to see her! She's stronger every day and ready to go home. Took about 200 JCAD brochures and passed them out all across central Missouri, down to the MO bootheel, Kentucky, Illinois, Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia. It's GREAT! Everyone seems to collect something! The South is busy talking about "Joe and Cathy's Antique Directory" in Mid-Missouri. After a few days it was mighty good to come home to Mid-Missouri "The Back Way".
